New Zealand Air Force's training base receives an electrical makeover

Tenix was awarded a contract in May 2009 to supply and install 3.5km of 11kV underground cable between the Powerco-owned, Sanson Substation and Ohakea Air Base in Palmerston North. The Ohakea Air Base is currently upgrading its existing premises and requires an upgrade to their existing electrical supply from Sanson Substation.

The scope of works includes trenching, installation of a new circuit breaker at Sanson Substation, automatic switchgear at the Air Base, and installation of a new cable to supply the Air Base at 11kV instead of the current rating of 33kV (with the provision to supply an additional substation in the future).

Sanson Substation's control room to remotely operate the automatic switchgear without disruption of electrical supply to the air base. This is especially useful when a fault occurs.
