Tenix Alliance today signed a contract with Wagga Wagga City Council to upgrade and operate its sewage treatment plants at its Narrung St and Kooringal facilities. Tenix Alliance will design and build the upgrades, after which it will operate and maintain the plants until 2019, with options to extend the contract for a further 10 years. The designs include the continued use of existing structures and process elements at each of the plants to minimise the capital cost. Tenix Alliance will also construct a duplicate of an existing pipeline crossing beneath the Murrumbidgee River , to ensure service to the Northern catchment area is maintained. Tenix Alliance CEO Sean Woellner said the project is of great importance for the local community and the company. “This contract is one of the council’s most significant infrastructure projects for many years and confirms Tenix Alliance’s strong capabilities both in the construction and operation of wastewater treatment plants,” Mr Woellner said. “It will ensure the plants cope with higher future flows due to expected growth of the area’s domestic and industrial population, as well as achieving more stringent effluent discharge standards to satisfy new environmental license requirements.” The plants are scheduled to meet the new quality standards by May 2009, with formal plant performance tests due for completion by August 2009. Narrung St sewage treatment plant will have its average daily inflow capacity increased to 17 mega-litres per day, while the Kooringal STP will be upgraded to 4.5 mega-litres per day. The increased capacity and improved quality will be provided by new Sequenced Batch Reactors, which will be installed at each plant. Both sites will retain the capability for providing reclaimed water for re-use. For media enquiries please contact: Malou Atayde, Communications Manager on +61 447 228 967
