Tenix offers a unique mix of engineering, fabrication, construction, contracting and maintenance services to owners of power generation assets throughout Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. We have successfully delivered major projects for owners of coal-fired, gas-fired and geothermal plants.

Our power generation capabilities were developed both within our business in New Zealand and Power Generation Services (PGS) businesses in Australia. Between them, these businesses have more than 100 years combined experience in mechanical engineering, piping and construction services. Now integrated in our Industrial Services group, this combined capability offers significant benefits to our clients.

Kemerton Open Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station, Western Australia
For Siemens
Our role: Tenix was contracted to Siemens to install mechanical equipment and piping, including two V94.2 Gas Turbines (186 tonnes each); exhaust gas diffusers and combustion chambers; two generators (231 tonnes each); fuel oil & gas systems; purge water packages; lube oil cooler units; generator coolers with pumps and tanks; hydraulic skids; and 80 tonnes of pipe spools with pipe supports.
Outcome: The close relationship between Siemens' technical personnel and Tenix's site personnel proved the key to a successful project. Our client (Siemens) was invited to attend the daily co-ordination meeting between the Tenix project management/supervision crews. This provided an excellent opportunity to relay and understand key priorities of both the client and construction team(s) and promoted an opportunity to voice any concerns or highlight expectations with respect to key activities including turbine & generator alignments and hydrostatic testing. This resulted in a significant reduction in written correspondence (RFI's & contractual) hence allowing both teams to focus on the project outcomes whilst providing real time scheduling adjustments to meet both Siemens and Tenix program.
PNG Geothermal Power Projects, Papua New Guinea
For Lihir Gold
Our role: Geothermal Cross-Country Steam Collection - design and build of 600NB and 750NB two-phase steam collection pipeline, 2.3km long and a 600NB and 900NB steam pipeline, 1.2km long. Also, the design, supply and installation of insulation, instrumentation, control system, valves and pipe supports. The project team also managed the civil and electrical subcontracts and provided commissioning support to the client.
Outcome: Delivered on-time and on-budget to client's expectations. This geothermal power plant substantially reduces Lihir Gold Ltd's carbon footprint and fuel costs while providing them with a reliable and consistent power supply for their gold production facilities in a very remote location.
Sumitomo Corporation Steam Separators, New Zealand
Our role: Design, fabricate and deliver three steam separators and four steam strainers to Mighty River Power's Kawerau Geothermal Steam Power Station in New Zealand.
Outcome: All vessels were successfully delivered on-time and to-budget; including delivery of a 75-tonne separator - the second largest in the world.
Mighty River Power Geothermal Power Station, New Zealand
Our role: Design and build the main cross-country steam-gathering pipelines for the Kawerau 90MW Geothermal Power Station Steamfield in New Zealand.
Outcome: This project required significant traffic management and liaison with community stakeholders as construction involved a number of crossings including; a live pulp and paper mill, a highway bridge, a railway line, an industrial plant and private lands. Despite these challenges, the project was delivered without any interference to underground services or operations.
Southdown Power Station 45MW Expansion, New Zealand
For Mighty River Power
Our Role: Upgrade of the 90MW power station with an additional 45MW generation capacity. The scope included project management and installation of a new 45MW GE turbine and generator set, structural steel, services piping in carbon steel, stainless steel and PVC, cable racks, ducting and the installation of a 30m high chimney stack. Commissioning support for the start-up was also provided.
Outcome: Completed on-time with no lost time injuries.
