Electricity Generation

Tenix Alliance offers a unique mix of engineering, fabrication, construction, contracting and maintenance services to owners of power generation assets throughout Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. We have successfully delivered major projects for owners of coal-fired, gas-fired and geothermal plants.

Our power generation capabilities were developed both within our Robt Stone business in New Zealand and Power Generation Services (PGS) businesses in Australia. Between them, these businesses have more than 100 years combined experience in mechanical engineering, piping and construction services. Now integrated in our Industrial Services group, this combined capability offers significant benefits to our clients.

Current and recent projects:

Kemerton Open Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station , WA
For Siemens

Our role: Tenix Alliance was contracted to Siemens to install mechanical equipment and piping, including two V94.2 Gas Turbines (186 tonnes each); exhaust gas diffusers and combustion chambers; two generators (231 tonnes each); fuel oil & gas systems; purge water packages; lube oil cooler units; generator coolers with pumps and tanks; hydraulic skids; and 80 tonnes of pipe spools with pipe supports.

Outcome: The close relationship between Siemens' technical personnel and Tenix Alliance's site personnel proved the key to a successful project. Our client (Siemens) was invited to attend the daily co-ordination meeting between the Tenix Alliance project management/supervision crews. This provided an excellent opportunity to relay and understand key priorities of both the client and construction team(s) and promoted an opportunity to voice any concerns or highlight expectations with respect to key activities including turbine & generator alignments and hydrostatic testing. This resulted in a significant reduction in written correspondence (RFI's & contractual) hence allowing both teams to focus on the project outcomes whilst providing real time scheduling adjustments to meet both Siemens and Tenix Alliance program.

PNG Geothermal Power Projects
For Lihir Gold

Our role: Geothermal Cross-Country Steam Collection - design and build of 600NB and 750NB two-phase steam collection pipeline, 2.3km long and a 600NB and 900NB steam pipeline, 1.2km long. Also, the design, supply and installation of insulation, instrumentation, control system, valves and pipe supports. The project team also managed the civil and electrical subcontracts and provided commissioning support to the client.

  • 30MW Geothermal Power Plant - Mechanical and structural works including all prefabrication, supply and installation. Installation of cooling tower and construction of power house building, gas extraction annex, control building and office complex
  • 20MW Geothermal Power Plant - Mechanical and structural works including all prefabrication, supply and installation

Outcome: Delivered on-time and on-budget to client's expectations. This geothermal power plant substantially reduces Lihir Gold Ltd's carbon footprint and fuel costs while providing them with a reliable and consistent power supply for their gold production facilities in a very remote location.

Kawerau Power Station, New Zealand
For Mighty River Power/Sumitomo

Our Role: Supply of the main pressure vessels, including fabrication of two 38 tonne LP separator vessels and one 80 tonne HP separator plus two LP and two HP strainers.

Also design and construction of cross-country steam gathering pipelines including 3 km of 24", 16" and 14" brine line and construction of a 2-phase production line from the wells to the power station.

Southdown Power Station 45MW Expansion, New Zealand
For Mighty River Power

Our Role: Upgrade of the 90MW power station with an additional 45MW generation capacity. The scope included project management and installation of a new 45MW GE turbine and generator set, structural steel, services piping in carbon steel, stainless steel and PVC, cable racks, ducting and the installation of a 30m high chimney stack. Commissioning support for the start-up was also provided.

Outcome: Completed on-time with no lost time injuries.
